CMCS: Building community around contemplative practice, research, and pedagogy
About Us
The CMCS is a coalition of practitioners and teachers promoting the study and practice of contemplative methods across the 25 campuses of the City University of New York (CUNY). We do this work to advance CUNY’s mission as one of the country’s leading engines of public education and socio-economic mobility, recognizing that true human flourishing grows out of cultivating the fullness of human being – body, mind, and spirit.
Vision / What We Do
At our core, we are a hub of knowledge, connecting the CUNY community to the latest developments in contemplative research and pedagogy. Our goal is to foster a culture of innovation and collaboration, bringing together scholars and educators from across campus to create impactful partnerships that lead to new discoveries and fresh insights. Join us in advancing the boundaries of scholarship and learning, and together, we’ll build a brighter future for all.
Values / Aspirations
We aspire to be inclusive by broadening access to and applications of mindfulness and other contemplative practices among those less likely to encounter them. We share a commitment to exploring the socio-economic justice dimensions of such practices, including how they can both reflect and influence our shared physical and cultural environments.
